The United States National Ignition Facility at Lawrence Livermore
National Laboratory has successfully fired the most powerful laser beam
ever recorded. It took 192 laser beams to deliver more than 500 trillion
watts, or terawatts, of peak power and 1.85 megajoules of ultraviolet
laser light to a target 2mm in diameter.

Symantec Update Leaves XP PCs Feeling Blue
Symantec has determined that combining the newest version of its
antivirus software with the decade-old Windows XP operating system can
cause users' PCs to freeze up with the dreaded Blue Screen of Death.
After Symantec analyzed the problem, it revealed that the
incompatibility hit machines running the OS in combination with certain
other applications.

Skype IMs Go Rogue
Some users of Microsoft's Skype service are having problems with their
text messages, as detailed in the Skype support network. Skype instant
messaging contacts are getting messages originally addressed to others.
A few users who got messages from one Skype contact found those messages
were somehow sent from their accounts to yet other Skype contacts
without their knowledge.

Mountain Lion to Descend July 25
Apple's upcoming operating system, OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, may be
scheduled to land on July 25, according to a recent report. The OS has
200 new features and is designed to seamlessly tie together apps from
across Apple's hardware ecosystem. If the rumored date holds true, the
operating system will launch the day after Apple announces its latest
quarterly earnings report.
