Making IT Problems Solve Themselves (48:53 minutes)
Data centers are being tasked with supporting huge and fast-growing
amounts of data and doing it all with utmost efficiency. Enterprises
must move now toward proactive types of support in order to continue
ongoing improvement and to maintain systems. This calls for new
approaches to data center support, remote support and support automation.

Today's Story Highlights

Yahoo Voice Crack Spills 400K+ Usernames, Passwords
The passwords and usernames of more than 400,000 contributors to the
Yahoo Voices website have been stolen and posted on the Internet. The
hack was carried out by an organization calling itself "D33Ds Company,"
which posted the data on the Web. The D33Ds Web page containing the data
was down when checked at press time. However, the text file is
reportedly available through torrents.

Sensor-Equipped Gloves May Give Voice to Sign Language
Making use of sleek black gloves, sophisticated sensors, a
microcontroller and a smartphone, students from the Ukraine have created
a device that translates sign language into speech. Called "Enable
Talk," the system won first place in the software design category at
Microsoft's 10th annual Imagine Cup, held this year in Sydney,
Australia.

Amazon Smartphone Speculation Snowballs
New details about a possible forthcoming smartphone from Amazon continue
to surface. The Internet retailer's testing a smartphone right now and
may begin mass production late this year or early in 2013, according to
a recent report. The phone could have a screen measuring between 4
and 5 inches.

Following Microsoft's Recipes for Android Self-Programming
Microsoft is involved in a project geared toward self-programming and
extending the functionality of the Android smartphone environment.
That's surprising, because Microsoft has got its own phone OS that
competes. However, on{X} in beta is bringing some unique JavaScript APIs
to the table that let you program your phone remotely.

Canonical, the FSF and the Ongoing Secure Boot Saga
What do the Energizer Bunny and the ongoing Windows 8 Secure Boot Saga
have in common? Yes, that's right: They both just keep going. Scarcely a
week goes by these days, in fact, without some fresh proclamation to fan
the flames of UEFI controversy here in the Linux blogosphere.

Why It Should Be an iPod HD, Not an iPad Mini
Ever since the Amazon Kindle Fire came out late last year, I've been
wondering when Apple would release a big iPod -- not a small iPad
"mini," but a larger iPod sibling. On the surface, it's all just a game
of semantics. What does an iPod "HD" have that an iPad "mini" does not?
Or vice versa? Not much, of course, just marketing and perception, which
happen to be two areas where Apple excels.

Amazon Ups the Ante With GameCircle
On Tuesday, Amazon announced a new social engagement layer for video
game developers. GameCircle for Amazon's Kindle Fire will allow
developers to add achievements, leader boards and even cloud syncing to
games. Developers who utilize the GameCircle APIs will be able to
include achievements that gamers can earn, while also receiving message
updates without leaving the game.
