Podcast
TOGAF and DoDAF: Enterprise Architecture's Power Couple (11:59 minutes)
TOGAF and DoDAF, where have they been? Where are they going? And why do
they need to relate to one another more these days? "I think we're
seeing the state of industry advance and looking at trying to have the
federal government, both United States and abroad, embrace global
industry standards for EA work," said Armstrong Process Group's Chris
Armstrong.

Today's Story Highlights

Microsoft Pitches Lowball Windows 8 Upgrade Price
An upgrade to the Pro edition of Microsoft's next operating system,
Windows 8, will sell for $40, a significantly lower price than what the
company has charged for upgrade packages in the past. The offer applies
to purchases made through Windows.com for PCs running Windows XP or a
later version.

Facebook Email Shenanigans Invade Users' Address Books
Facebook's email drama continues to unfold a week after it was revealed
that the social network unilaterally switched its users' publicly posted
email listings to their "@facebook.com" addresses. More recently, users
have begun complaining that Facebook's mobile app seems to be swapping
out information contained in their smartphones' address books.

Twitter Channels Google, Issues Transparency Report
Today in international tech news: Twitter issues an extensive
transparency report; Google sends a letter to Europe; Italy threatens
Apple over the company's refusal to give free two-year warranties; and
one day after announcing a deal with MasterCard, Deutsche Telekom
reveals it is "in talks" with Google about mobile payments.

Chrome Bookmarks and Tabs Shine Across All iDevices
Despite the blood feud going on between Apple and Google, the latter has
successfully landed a mobile version of Chrome in the former's iOS App
Store. For iPhone and iPad users who are fond of Chrome on the desktop,
this could get interesting. Chrome for iOS promises some nice-looking
syncing abilities that allow you to automatically make your mobile
browsing experience match what you do on your desktop.

Image Editing Is a Snap With Pinta
Pinta, a raster image editor, is the app equivalent of a diamond in the
rough. Years of testing and reviewing open source and commercial
software taught me never to assume that a relatively new application is
not worthy of attention. That lesson proved true with this youngster of
an app.

Firefox OS Slinks Onto Smartphone Stage
While Mozilla has seen its share of the browser market decline, losing
much ground to Chrome, Firefox could challenge another Google
technology. On Monday, Mozilla announced that the Firefox OS mobile
platform, previously known as "Boot to Gecko," would be used by a number
of mobile carriers including Deutsche Telekom, Etisalat, Smart, Sprint,
Telecom Italia, Telfonica and Tenenor.
