Podcast
Strong Medicine for Complex IT Security Maladies (29:47 minutes)
The number of attacks on enterprise systems continues to climb, as does
the cost of protecting those systems. The path to reducing risk, even as
threats escalate, is to confront security at the framework and strategic
level. The point solutions approach must be harnessed into a managed and
ongoing security enhancement lifecycle.

Today's Story Highlights
FBI May Be Gathering String on Carrier IQ
Speculation regarding the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation's ties
with troubled cellphone software firm Carrier IQ was sparked recently by
the bureau's rejection of a request made under the Freedom of
Information Act. The request aimed to uncover what records and
information the bureau has on Carrier IQ.

White House Gets Its Cybersecurity Research Ducks in a Row
It looks as if the United States federal government is getting even more
serious about cybersecurity these days. First off, the White House
released a road map that sets R&D priorities for cybersecurity in order
to speed up efforts to secure the U.S. network infrastructure and change
the government's approach to online security.

Can WebOS Rise Above Clouds of Skepticism?
HP's decision to open source its webOS mobile operating system may have
met with some early cheers from observers glad to see the company's
indecision come to an end, but much of that relief has been increasingly
tempered by sentiments of a darker kind. "WebOS is doomed to fail" read
one headline. "Open Sourcing The Platform Is The Death Of WebOS" agreed
another.

Infinity Blade II Carves Out a Plot This Time Around
I never beat the original "Infinity Blade." I liked the game, thought it
was worth the money, spent many a joyful moment slashing away at a
never-ending parade of uglies. But come on, that game was kind of hard.
You're trying to kill a God King, and that's not an easy thing to do,
even for a thirtieth-generation sword-swinger.

Twitter Rolls the Dice
When a social media site undertakes a major redesign, it's kind of like
that scene in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade." Drink from the right
cup, and you're completely re-energized. But there are a lot of poor
choices you can make, and drinking from any of the wrong cups will turn
your site into a dried-out husk.
