Today's Story Highlights

Twitter Trades Simplicity for Sophistication
Twitter has updated its site and dramatically streamlined its user
interface with an eye to attracting new users -- not to mention brands.
The new look is based on tabbed sections where users can spruce up their
profiles and better organize their content. Businesses get the same
privilege, with the rollout of pages that let them create "an even more
compelling destination on Twitter," the company said.

Microsoft Opens iOS Window for Xbox Live Fans
Xbox gamers can access their Xbox Live accounts from their iPhones and
iPads now that Microsoft has launched the My Xbox Live app for iOS.
Access to Xbox Live has been available on Microsoft's Windows Phone
platform since it launched more than a year ago, but this is the first
time Microsoft is offering the app on a competing system, although
third- party apps have allowed at least partial capability before.

Nexus Hits the Mainstream
Ever since the Galaxy Nexus, the Samsung-built Android phone that will
usher in Ice Cream Sandwich, was announced in Hong Kong in October, the
device has been making the headlines. On Thursday alone, there were
stories about its launch in Canada, Verizon Wireless' excluding Google
Wallet from the device, the Nexus' U.S. release date, and how it's
impacted by CDMA technology. What gives?

OnLive's Cloudburst: It's Raining Games on Tablets, Phones
Online game service OnLive is bringing its cloud magic to smartphones
and tablets. The pioneer in cloud-based gaming has introduced a free app
that allows gamers to play console-style games on their smartphones and
tablets. Although the application was announced Thursday, when it
appears in app stores will vary.

Texting While Driving a Growing Scourge
There is good news and bad news for driver safety in the U.S.: The good
news is that highway deaths fell to 32,885 in 2010, the lowest level
since 1949, according to the NHTSA. The bad news, however, is delivered
in the same report. The NHTSA unveiled a new measure of fatalities
related to distracted driving, which it calls "distraction-affected
crashes."

Verizon's 4G Service Back Up, but Users Still Miffed
A technical issue disrupted 4G LTE network service from Verizon Wireless
for some customers between late Tuesday and late Wednesday, but the
issue is now resolved. That's according to the company, which issued
only a terse statement on Thursday morning. The term "outage" is "not
entirely accurate" as a description of what occurred, said spokesperson
Tom Pica, but he declined to provide further detail.
