Today's Story Highlights

Study: Electric Grid Needs Full-Time Cyberguard
The United States needs an overarching national authority to oversee
cybersecurity efforts connected to the national power grid, an MIT study
suggests. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission and the North
American Electric Reliability Corporation have authority over the
development of cybersecurity standards for the bulk power system and
ensuring compliance with these standards.

YouTube Designs a More TV-Like Experience
Google has launched a major interface redesign for YouTube. This latest
change revamps the site overall. It also provides a new home page and
simpler, customizable channels. "We want to grow the amount of time
people spend on the site, and we feel that growing channels is a way to
help them find the videos they love," YouTube spokesperson Chris Dale
told TechNewsWorld.

Top Technology Trends for 2012
Well, it is December, when sugar plums fill children's heads and
analysts look into their crystal balls to see what the new year will
bring. Assuming the world doesn't end, 2012 should be a watershed year
for personal technology, showcasing the beginning and end for a lot of
companies, as well as major transitions for those that are left.
Overall, you'll find technology more social, more connected, and
increasingly more voice-controlled.

in the Linux blogosphere when another one started up anew. The cause
this time? Oh, just a little article entitled, "The Disadvantages of
Using Linux" by a blogger known as "DarkDuck." "No standard edition,"
"learning curve," "non-compatible software" and "unsupported hardware"
are just a few of the charges DarkDuck makes.

Picturesque Focuses on Just a Few Awesome Effects
A while ago I ran into a little photo effects app that helped me make
drop shadows and those cool reflection photos that Apple popularized --
you know, the ones that make the iPhone look as if it is sitting on a
shiny white tabletop, with a faint reflection below it. To make that
reflection happen with a more robust photo-editing tool took many steps.
