Today's Story Highlights

Web Guru Throws Wet Blanket on Fire
Jakob Nielsen, the design expert dubbed "the guru of Web page usability"
by The New York Times and "the Web's usability czar" by
WebReference.com, didn't find too many user-friendly features on
Amazon's new Kindle Fire, according to a report he published on his
website Monday. The device is too heavy for extended use, Nielsen said,
and he has problems with both the software and hardware design.

Feds Sailing Into Troubled Waters With Cybersecurity Skeleton Crew

An iPad Lover Plays With Fire, Part 3
The Kindle Fire is a great little media-consuming tablet, of this there
is no doubt: If you're a happy Amazon.com customer, a Fire will likely
warm your heart. You can buy, rent and stream TV shows and movies from
Amazon, buy and stream music, surf the Web, check email, and read lots
and lots of books.

Open Source and the Open Road, Part 2
The connected car is on the verge of going where no vehicle has ever
gone before. Presently, many cars enable drivers to pair their mobile
music and phone devices with their vehicles' sound systems. But cars
with telemetry that will connect to cloud-based navigation and
entertainment services could soon be common.

NASA Spots Possible Earth 'Twin' 600 Light-Years Away
NASA's Kepler mission on Monday confirmed the discovery of a small
planet 600 light-years away from Earth in the "habitable zone" of a star
not unlike our own sun. About 2.4 times the size of Earth, the newly
confirmed planet -- called "Kepler-22b" -- is the smallest yet found to
orbit in the middle of the habitable zone, or the region where liquid
water could exist on a planet's surface.
