Today's Story Highlights

Pebble Goes Metallic
Pebble has unveiled new hardware and software designs, along with a
wearable tech appstore. The Pebble smartwatch got its start last year
with a successful Kickstarter campaign that resulted in sales of more
than 300,000 devices worldwide. The company is kicking off 2014 with new
products -- the Pebble Steel, new software and the appstore, all
announced at CES in Las Vegas.

China Blocks The Guardian's Website
The Guardian has become the latest Western media outlet to get blocked
in China. For more than a year, China's Web-censoring authorities,
unaffectionately known as the "Great Firewall of China," have blocked
sites for The New York Times and Bloomberg, each of which published
unsavory articles about wealth amassed by family members of Communist
Party leaders.

Nvidia's K1 Super Chip Lands in Farmer's Field
Nvidia this week announced the Tegra K1, a 192-core super chip that
brings its Kepler architecture to the mobile space. Kepler is used in
what Nvidia claims is the fastest GPU on the planet, its GeForce GTX 780
Ti. Because the K1 will support the latest PC-class gaming technologies,
it will be able to run the Unreal Engine 4 game engine, allowing PC- and
console-class game play.

With Graphite Electrodes, Heatworks Gets Water to Heat Itself
Traditional water heating equipment uses fuel as an energy source to
heat a rod-like element in the water tank. The element then warms the
water. If you've ever reheated a hot beverage by placing it in the
microwave, you'll have an idea as to the alternatives. Microwave ovens
heat liquids by moving molecules so that the molecules hit each other.
This action creates heat.

How an Aging Sprint Device Can Reduce Your Android Phone Bill
In case you hadn't noticed while wandering the aisles of your local
consumer electronics big-box retailer, there is an explosion of mobile
virtual network operators hitting the marketplace. MVNOs are telcos that
buy capacity from major operators like T-Mobile or AT&T, for example,
and sell it on to you. Walmart and América Móvil's Straight Talk calling
product is an example.

CES 2014 Trends: The Weird and the Wonderful
Devices ranging from the sublime to the strange are debuting this week
at International CES 2014. Products unveiled at the show suggest growing
trends toward wearable health-tracking products and increased human-
gadget interaction. There's a bed, for example, that tells owners how
they slept the previous night and what they can do to sleep better in
the future.

Intel Leaps Out of the Box
CEO Brian Krzanich laid out the road map for Intel's future in his first
Consumer Electronics Show keynote as CEO. Krzanich, who took over the
top job last May, focused on wearable technology -- including some
products designed internally -- as well as dual operating system tech
and Intel's McAfee security software. Among the products Krzanich
displayed was a Bluetooth headset codenamed "Jarvis."
