Today's Story Highlights
NoSQL, Part 1: Coming of Age
Amadeus, which handles bookings for 95 percent of flights worldwide,
uses a variety of NoSQL databases to deal with the massive amounts of
data that it handles. Amadeus enables 3.7 million bookings on more than
700 airlines, 110,000 hotel properties, and 30 rental car agencies each
day. "NoSQL databases are part of our technology stack to deal with Big
Data," said VP Dietmar Fauser.

So Now China IS Lifting Videogame Console Ban
China reportedly will temporarily lift a sales ban on foreign videogame
consoles, reversing a 14-year prohibition. Companies like Sony,
Microsoft and Nintendo -- which long have salivated over the heretofore
obstructed gold mine of Chinese videogamedom -- will be allowed to make
game consoles in Shanghai's free trade zone and then sell them in China.

Canon's PowerShot N100 Puts the Photographer in the Picture
If you can't beat 'em, join 'em. That seems to be what Canon is saying
with its announcement Monday of a new PowerShot camera model, the N100,
which includes several features popular on smartphones. For example, the
shooter has front and rear cameras. A picture-in-picture effect can be
created with the image from the rear-facing camera being incorporated
automatically into the main image.

Google-Led Coalition Aims to Drive Android Into Cars
In partnership with Nvidia and several automakers, Google on Monday
announced the creation of the Open Automotive Alliance, an effort
designed to further its push into the automobile industry. Audi, General
Motors, Honda and Hyundai are among the effort's partners on the
automotive side. The alliance will create a common platform members can
use to create Android-enabled vehicles.
