Today's Story Highlights

Glyph Mobile Theater Takes Kickstarter by Storm
Avegant's Glyph, which combines high-quality headphones with a retinal
display for an all-in-one audiovisual device, has far surpassed its
$250,000 Kickstarter goal since its Wednesday launch. The Glyph blew
past its target within four hours, and by mid-day Friday had drawn
$608,002 from 1,264 contributors. Backers who donate $499 or more earn a
fully functional prototype of the device.

Apple TV: From High Hopes to Has-Been
When it comes to TV, Apple is starting to recede into the dark corners
of my mind. Its relevance -- and even potential relevance -- is waning.
A fancypants Apple-made big-screen HDTV device that seems to float in
the air and function like a delightful work of art... . It not only
seems unlikely any time soon, but also unlikely to really matter to
anyone but rich Apple enthusiasts.

Internet Outage Leaves China Disconnected for 8 Hours
The Internet went dark in China on Tuesday. For some eight hours, more
than 618 million Chinese couldn't access cyberspace. The outage occurred
when two-thirds of all Web traffic in the country was redirected to a
single IP address located in the United States. The address belongs to
Dynamic Internet Technology, a company with ties to Falun Gong, a
spiritual group outlawed in China since 1999.

India's Tech Tax Complaints Deepen
Perhaps foreshadowing a sequel to their much-publicized tiff with Nokia,
tax authorities in India are claiming that Infosys and HP each owe
oodles in unpaid taxes. India is irked about deduction claims made for
software and manpower that was, as The Register reported, "developed and
deployed on clients' premises." If such deductions relate to clients'
premises, they are disqualified.
