Today's Story Highlights

Invasion of the Body Hackers? Medical Devices Susceptible to Attacks
Security expert and diabetic Jerome Radcliffe has hacked into the
wireless insulin pump he wears on his body around the clock to keep his
blood sugar level stable. Radcliffe talked about the hack in a
presentation at the Black Hat Security Conference, held in Las Vegas. He
reportedly detailed how untraceable attacks could be launched against
wireless insulin pumps, pacemakers and implanted defibrillators.

Of Horseshoes, Hand Grenades and Broadband Advertising
Broadband service providers in the United States are celebrating the
results of the Federal Communications Commission's findings on the
contentious question of broadband speeds in the country. The FCC has
found that actual sustained download speeds are much closer to the
speeds advertised by ISPs than was the case in early 2009.

The Possibility That Microsoft's SUSE Deal Could Be Good for Linux
July was a Microsoft-filled month, and that trend continued right up
until the very end. Case in point? Hard on the heels of Redmond's little
birthday present to Linux a few weeks ago, the Windows behemoth and SUSE
announced last week that they are renewing the years-long patent deal
originally signed by Novell but due to expire next year.

Facebook Seeks Beauty in E-Book Publisher Purchase
Push Pop Press, a start-up digital publisher, announced recently it's
been acquired by Facebook. Push Pop, founded by former Apple engineers
Mike Matas and Kimon Tsinteris, originally aimed to approach e-books by
incorporating new designs, better imaging technology and interactive
elements.

Integration, Rethought
Major trends around cloud, mobile and Software as a Service are
dramatically changing the requirements and benefits of application
integration. In many respects, the emphasis now on building hybrid
business processes from a variety of far-flung sources forces a
rethinking of integration and middleware.
