Today's Story Highlights
NSA Hackers Help Themselves to Google's Cookies
The United States National Security Agency reportedly is using at least
one type of Google cookie -- PREF, which stores a user's preferences --
to home in on the PCs of targets it wants to hack. NSA's Special Source
Operations division apparently is sharing information with Tailored
Access Operations, the agency's cyberwarfare intelligence-gathering
unit.

How to Use Twitter's New Crisis Alerts
Local government emergency managers have been trying for years to figure
out ways to alert members of the public about crises and incidents, like
natural disasters, that could affect them. Limited success has been
achieved with auto-dialer implementation, which is dependent on phone
lines' capacity. Twitter thinks it may have the best answer, though.

Manjaro Smooths Out Arch's Rough Edges
If you want a Linux distro that is different and almost always up to
date, look no further than Manjaro. If you can get it to load on your
computer, Manjaro has a few features that could interest a Linux user
who likes tinkering with the OS. The latest release failed to impress me
with its cantankerous loading, but once I got it running I was pleased.

One Smart Ringy Dingy Coming Soon
Smartwatches have dominated many of the tech headlines in 2013, but a
new project now counting down the final hours of a successful
crowdfunding campaign promises wearable computing of a different kind.
Dubbed the "Smarty Ring," this new device features an LED screen and is
designed to be worn on the finger and to stream data from an Android or
iOS mobile handset.

Normandy May Lead Nokia's Surprise Android Attack
Nokia might be planning a shift away from its Windows Phone base in
future smartphones -- even as the mobile phone unit of the business
heads to Microsoft. The company is working on an Android phone as part
of a push into the low-end smartphone market, according to The Verge.
Several sources close to Nokia suggested the company is working on the
project under the code name "Normandy."
