Today's Story Highlights

Microsoft Takes New Photosynth Out for a Spin
Microsoft has previewed the third generation of Photosynth, touting it
as a dramatic step forward in smoothness and simplicity. Four effects
are now available: Spin lets you rotate an object in the photo around
itself. Panorama lets you "stand" at the center of a photo and rotate
360 degrees around yourself. Walk allows you to follow a path, and Wall
lets you slide across a panorama.

Digital Santa, Part 3: Riding High on the Turbo Cyber Sleigh
Flashing strobe lights, streaming LEDs, whining jet engines, a Space
Shuttle's roar ... this isn't your grandpa's Santa Claus sleigh. Just
about everyone has some mental image of Santa's sleigh -- a hyperflux
supervehicle drawn by high-flying reindeer genetically modified for
delivering gifts and toys to girls and boys around the world, for
instance.

Low-Light-Loving iPhone Photogs Get Ring of Fire
The challenge for any fun-loving youngster old enough to party in dark
places is that the quality delivered by iPhone cameras just doesn't
match up with the memories of the moment: Smiling faces are washed,
vague or blurry, and the color tones, it seems, are never what your mind
remembers. Of course, depending on the scope of low-light fun, the photo
might be the only thing remembered.

Hour of Code Aims to Take the Mystery Out of Computer Science
More than 5 million students in 167 countries are getting at least one
hour of computer coding instruction this week as part of Code.org's Hour
of Code initiative, an event designed to promote computer science in
educational curricula worldwide. Code.org is providing educators with
the resources they need to give students an introductory computer
science lesson.

AllSeen Alliance to Standardize Internet of Things
The Linux Foundation on Tuesday announced the formation of the AllSeen
Alliance, a cross-industry consortium working on a standard of
interoperability among devices connected to the Internet of Things. LG
will incorporate the Alliance's technology into the smart TVs it offers
next year. The alliance's technology framework is based on Qualcomm's
AllJoyn open source project.
