Getting What You Want From ERP in the Cloud (9:39 minutes)
"Probably one of the biggest wins for us has been just driving
compliance against our contracts," said Brooke Krenn, whose company, Cox
Enterprises, recently moved to a cloud-based ERP system. "We're able to
see very easily now when a location or a business unit ... is purchasing
off-contract or when they're not utilizing one of our preferred or
negotiated suppliers."

Today's Story Highlights

The Tech-Adept Kitchen: A Home's Heart - and Brain
We might never get to the point of having a Jetsons-like kitchen that
prepares our meals for us, but some recent advances in kitchen
technology are getting close to that. Programmable ovens and stoves with
pre-set recipes and instructions for various dishes, for instance, take
much of the guesswork out of making a meal. In this way, Wolf's
convection steam oven helps cooks along while they're making dinner.

ACTA Runs Out of Gas in Europe
Today in international tech news: ACTA is essentially declared dead in
Europe. Meanwhile, a journalist from The Guardian live-tweets his arrest
in Moscow while covering -- or at least trying to cover -- the
inauguration of Vladimir Putin. Elsewhere, Australia contemplates data
collection on all Web-connected devices, and Lenovo unveils plans for a
massive plant in China.

AK-7 MIDI Keyboard Knows the Music but Mumbles the Words
Apple's Garage Band for Mac is loaded with an array of virtual
instruments. The application is capable of imitating brass, strings,
winds and percussion, as well as a whole stable of fully synthesized
noises with names like "Synchro Nice" and "Future Flute."

Big Red Picks Color for New Video Venture
Verizon Wireless has reportedly entered a multi-year partnership with
Color, the mobile social network company launched last year by serial
entrepreneur Bill Nguyen of Lala fame. Color offers an app for the
iPhone and Android that lets users broadcast live video clips 30 seconds
long to their Facebook friends.

The Samsung Galactic Empire
This past week has been especially kind to Samsung. Big sales numbers
were followed by the unveiling of the Galaxy S III, the company's latest
flagship phone and one that could very well own the market this summer.
The S III runs Android Ice Cream Sandwich, the latest version of
Google's operating system and one that up to this point hasn't taken
residence on a very large number of phones.
