Disaster Recovery: Not Just for Catastrophes Anymore (21:39 minutes)
Having a comprehensive disaster recovery system in place doesn't just
come in handy when calamity strikes. "We're starting to move now into a
slightly different world, but it has been the catalyst of DR that's
enabled [business units] to start thinking in these new ways, which they
weren't able to do before," said SAI Global's Mark Iveli.

Today's Story Highlights

RIM Plays Devs for Dollars
Research In Motion has big plans for its next-generation platform,
BlackBerry 10, expected for release later this year. However, in order
to compete with market leaders iOS and Android, the company will need
strong support from the mobile application development community. To do
that, it has reportedly offered a bounty.

Sorting Out the Image Format Jumble
Have you ever wondered what the differences are among the scores of
digital image formats out there? Some of the more common ones we see are
GIF and JPEG but what does it all mean, and why are there so many? Plus,
how do you know which one to use for the Web, and how can you take

UK Olympics Could Present Juicy Cyberattack Target
Today in international tech news: A British politician sounds the
warning bell on cyberattacks during the Summer Olympics, claiming "the
threat is accelerating." Elsewhere, The Guardian says the UK may have to
create a China-esque firewall to execute its block on The Pirate Bay --
which, by the way, experienced a huge traffic surge following the UK
ban.

Ubuntu Linux 12.04: Microsoft's Worst Nightmare?
Well there's a new kid in town here in the Linux blogosphere, and it's
already caused quite a stir. It's one of the Ubuntu clan, as its
nickname makes clear, but that's as far as the foolin' goes. With five
years of support and a scaly, tough hide, this one's here to stay. With
time on its side and its eye on the prize, it may just blaze a new
trail. Can freedom take hold in a world that's been dominated for so
long?

The Sad 'Wake Up' Saga Just Gets Sadder
I'm often blown away by the pathetically misguided marketing campaigns
that clearly out-of-touch executives in large corporations green light
... and then shell out millions of dollars to put into motion. But the
"Wake Up" flashmob that tumbled out of a clearly expensive bus in
Sydney, Australia, had me scratching my head while simultaneously
clutching my belly to ease the pain of laughing so hard.
