German Media Mogul Rips Google in Open Letter
The head of one of Germany's biggest media companies penned an open
letter criticizing Google, saying that his company is afraid of Google
and its ever-swelling power. The letter, written by Mathias Dopfner, the
chief executive of media giant Axel Springer, opines that Google's
technology platforms spread more quickly and more efficiently than
anything in the world -- save "biological viruses."

Americans Find Future Tech Both Fascinating and Frightening
The pace of technological change is getting faster, and many Americans
are optimistic about the results, although a sizable minority are
concerned, Pew Research has found. Nearly 60 percent think technological
and scientific advances will make life in the future better, but 30
percent fear they will make life worse than it is today. Designer babies
and robot caregivers sparked major anxiety.

uGet Gives Great Downloads
The latest version of the uGet Download Manager rekindled my interest in
grabbing files without relying on a Web browser. uGet version 1.10.4.
was released last month. Written in C, it uses GTK+3 for its user
interface, and it is packed full with improvements. It is very reliable
and stable, with 11 years of growth behind it. The uGet website has
received a makeover to better support users.
