Today's Story Highlights

Clock Counting Down on Windows XP Support
As Microsoft prepares to cut off support for Windows XP, hackers are
sharpening their knives in anticipation of carving up the operating
system's carcass. Web predators will pounce on XP 10 minutes after
Microsoft pulls the support plug on the software, predicted one former
military computer specialist and network engineer. Indeed, it appears
that information highwaymen are stockpiling ammunition.

Sony's New Business Slate Allows Document Doodling
Sony has launched a high-end tablet targeted at businesses, which allows
users to annotate and draw on documents on an e-Ink screen. It is
pitching Digital Paper as a solution for increasing productivity and
streamlining collaboration in paper-heavy environments. It's targeting
the legal and higher education sectors, along with corporate boards and
government agencies, as potential clients.

Japan to Fire Off Emails in Event of Incoming Missile
Starting April 1, Japan's Fire and Disaster Management Agency will send
email alerts to residents' phones should North Korea start lobbing
missiles. The messages would be sent using the nation's already-
functional J-Alert, a free system designed to notify people about
earthquakes and tsunamis. The missile-warning service is aimed
specifically at those who use NTT Docomo, KDDI au and Softbank Mobile
devices.

Microsoft's Merry-Making MS-DOS Code Caper
Well it's the end of another March here in the Linux blogosphere, and
that can mean only one thing: the arrival of another April Fools' Day.
As if on cue, Microsoft recently made an eminently Fools' Day-worthy
move. "On Tuesday, we dusted off the source code for early versions of
MS-DOS and Word for Windows," wrote Roy Levin, managing director for
Microsoft Research Silicon Valley.
