Today's Story Highlights

How to Make Windows 8 Look Like Win 7 on Your PC
Windows 8's blah reception from many computer users may have been due at
least in part to a peculiar trait that we humans have, and that's our
obsession with improvement. Improving our lot has been a fixation
throughout virtually all of human history, so it shouldn't come as any
great surprise that Microsoft couldn't help itself when it became time
to update its OS.

Aussie Police Investigate Facebook Pot Peddler
Australian police are investigating an Aussie who is openly advertising
and, presumably, selling marijuana on Facebook. The dealer, who operates
under the pseudonym "Rick Kush Dispenser," has posted advertisements for
multiple strains of marijuana on a "swap and sell" Facebook page that is
generally used for clothes, children's toys and electronics.

The Yay! and Uh-Oh Reasons for Slowing Mac Sales
There's been some concern over the last year or so over slowing Mac
sales. Instead of selling at wildly better rates than the constricting
PC industry, Macs have been languishing. Of course, at the same time
iPad and iPhone sales have been skyrocketing, so it's not hard to point
a finger at iPads as a reason. Makes sense. iPads hold a heckuva lot of
computing power inside their one-piece slab.

Task Coach Keeps You on Target and in Control
Attention to detail is often the missing feature that separates really
useful to-do managers from the mundane list-tracking options. Task Coach
goes out of its way to help you keep track of the details. The latest
version of Task Coach -- version 1.3.33-1 -- does a good job of
servicing two categories, in fact. It is both a personal task tracker
and a to-do manager.

US Carriers Nix Samsung's Smartphone Kill Switch
U.S. wireless carriers have rejected Samsung's proposal to preload theft
deterrent software on its phones, said San Francisco District Attorney
George Gascón. Samsung wanted to preload Lojack for Android, which could
brick phones and thus eliminate their value in the secondary market,
"but only if it was made standard on all devices," Gascón continued.

Xbox One Party's On
Just one week after its biggest rival hit the market, Microsoft's new
console, the Xbox One, will go on sale with a series of splashy events
to mark the launch. From the stroke of midnight on Nov. 22, a new war
will be under way. While Sony is focusing on game play with the
PlayStation 4, Microsoft is pitching the Xbox One as a home
entertainment hub.

Logitech Outfits iPhone for Gaming Control
Logitech on Wednesday introduced its new PowerShell Controller +
Battery, a device that's designed to turn users' iPhones into gaming
consoles. Compatible with iPhone 5, iPhone 5s and fifth-generation iPod
touch devices running iOS 7, the PowerShell offers analog off-screen
controls along with a battery pack for $99.99. It is now available.

Musk Heaps Fuel on Tesla Model S Fire
The United States National Highway Traffic Safety Administration last
week launched a probe of the safety of the Tesla Model S automobile. The
investigation "was prompted by recent incidents in Washington State and
Tennessee that resulted in battery fires due to undercarriage strikes
with roadway debris," said agency spokesperson Kathryn Henry.
