Burning Rubber on the Road to Virtualization (11:27 minutes)
Motorcycle maker Ducati has virtualized nearly all its servers, having
gone full-throttle for virtualization in a relatively short period of
time. "Given the targets we would face in just three to four years, it
was absolutely a necessity to move quickly into virtualization to enable
all the other products," said CIO Daniel Bellini.

Today's Story Highlights
Finding Your Way Around a Router
Have you ever accessed your home or small office router configuration
settings and been bombarded with a mass of incomprehensible, cryptic
computer-eze and senseless acronyms and abbreviations? Never fear -- you
can quickly come up to speed on the basics. The router is a computer
networking device that manages the data. It interprets the packet's
address and directs the packet to its destination.

UK, US Play Piracy Tug-of-War
There is cross-party pressure in the UK to stay the extradition of 23-
year-old Richard O'Dwyer, who founded a website that shared links to TV
shows. Last month Theresa May, the UK home secretary, approved the
extradition request to send O'Dwyer to the U.S., where he faces up to 10
years in prison for copyright violations.

Microsoft Open Technologies: Same Old, Same Old?
Well the shock had barely worn off from the recent news that Microsoft
is among the Linux kernel's biggest contributors when another mind-
bending announcement was made on a closely related theme. The
development this time? None other than Microsoft's declaration last week
that it was creating a wholly owned subsidiary devoted to forging closer
ties with the open source community. Is it a dream? A nightmare?

Windows Phone Growing Pains Cause Update Headache
Will Microsoft let owners of smartphones running Windows Phone 7.5,
nicknamed "Mango," upgrade to WinPho 8, also known as "Apollo?" At this
point, the answer appears very unclear. Controversy erupted when Nuno
Silva, described as a Microsoft evangelist, said that all current
smartphones running Windows Phone 7 will get the upgrade to WinPho 8.

Steve Jobs' Greatest Invention: The Apple Retail Store
I've changed my mind about the greatest invention of Steve Jobs. It's
not the iPhone, it's not the iPod, iTunes, or white earbuds. And it sure
as heck isn't the iPad. While the original, friendly, all-in-one Macs
certainly broke new ground, I see their basic ideas and form factors as
inevitable -- someone, at some point, would have invented something like
the iMac eventually.
