Today's Story Highlights
What Evil Lurks in the Hearts of Hactivists?
Nearly two-thirds (64 percent) of IT pros believe their organizations
will be the target of a cyberattack in the next six months, and three
out of five (61 percent) say the attack will come from hactivists. That
was one of the findings in cybersecurity firm Bit9's annual security
survey released last week. What's surprising about the survey is the
concern given to hacktivist attacks, said Bit9 CTO Harry Sverdlove.

Apple and Microsoft Take Heat for High Prices Down Under
Today in international tech news: Lawmakers investigate why software and
downloads are so much more expensive in Australia, a mobile network is
lobbying to speed up the introduction of 4G in Britain, a wireless
provider might try to block Skype in Sweden, and Tech In Asia looks at
the inspiration for the Google Drive logo.

A New Day Is Dawning for the Technology Market
Last week, I was at the Dell annual Industry Analyst Conference, and it
suddenly struck me that we are looking at a very different technology
market this decade. Apple is expected to slide, largely due to the
firm's inability to replace Steve Jobs; the dynamic that created
Microsoft is changing, and analysts are questioning the firm's relevance
as Dell and HP ramp up their own software efforts. Dell, in particular,
is doing some really interesting things.

Linux and Gaming: Full Steam Ahead
"It has taken longer than most anyone would have anticipated, but the
fact remains that Valve is in fact creating a native Linux port of their
Steam game distribution client and of the Source Engine to run natively
on Linux," read the announcement on Phoronix on Wednesday. Think gaming
is trivial? Think again: In a matter of seconds, the topic was on fire
on Slashdot and throughout the Linux blogosphere.

Pocket Will Have You Grabbing Content by the Handful
I've been playing around with Pocket, a not-so-new app which may have
undergone one of the smartest name changes in the history of the App
Store -- previously Pocket was known as "Read It Later." The app
basically lets you snag content that you find online and store it in a
handy way for reading or viewing at some point in the future.

Support and Opposition Dig In as CISPA Clears House
On Thursday the House of Representatives passed the Cyber Intelligence
Sharing and Protection Act despite continued controversy regarding
privacy concerns and even a threat of veto from the White House. The
measure, which was approved by a 248-168 vote, would make it easier for
the federal government as well as corporations in the private sector to
share cyberthreat data with one another.
