The Transformational Approach to IT Gratification (33:47 minutes)
Once the decision is made to improve your data center, the most
difficult question is often where to begin. Short-term and long-term
goals must be considered, meaning you'll have to accurately predict the
future up to 20 or so years down the road. Your clients demand instant
gratification, and it takes a special kind of data center to deliver that.

Today's Story Highlights

The Holographic Universe: Is Our 3D World Just an Illusion?
It's difficult enough for most humans to grasp the idea that our planet
is just one of countless others in our galaxy -- and a pretty small one,
at that. Then, of course, there's the concept that our galaxy is just
one of billions of others in the universe -- sure to compound any
confusion considerably. But neither of those notions can compete on the
mind-bending scale with an idea that's currently being investigated at
Fermilab.

The iPhone 5's Not-So-Easy Pieces
The rumor mill is swirling up a storm for Apple's next iPhone launch.
The company has placed orders for key components to be used in the next-
generation iPhone, scheduled for launch sometime in the third quarter,
according to The Wall Street Journal, which based its report on
information provided by suppliers.

Geeqie Image Viewer Geeks Out on Features
When it comes to image viewers, one app is not always hands-down better
than others. It is rare to find an image viewing tool that has every
feature stockpiled on your wish list. So having a collection of go-to
viewing tools to meet a variety of graphics needs is a better strategy.
That said, the Geeqie Image Viewer goes a long way in keeping that set
of viewing tools to a minimum.

Microsoft Puts the Squeeze on Samsung
Microsoft has reportedly trained its Android patent guns on Samsung
Electronics, demanding $15 for every Android-based handset the Korean
manufacturer produces. If true, this could be the highest fee demanded
by Redmond for its Android patents so far. Microsoft is reportedly
getting royalties of $5 per Android device from Taiwanese mobile device
giant HTC.

Studies: Federal IT Procurement Needs a Smooth Operator
When the U.S. government goes to the market for information technology,
various contracting mechanisms come into play. In fact, as IT evolves,
contracting follows, witness recent efforts at the General Services
Administration to develop special procurement vehicles for both cloud
technology and wireless services.
